Leslie Farfan grew up on the South Shore of Montreal and in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where she continues to live, work, and raise her family. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Concordia University in Montreal in 1981, she continued her own creative practice in drawing, painting, and printmaking while also working at a pottery studio on the Main. She was a member of Powerhouse Gallery and Atelier Graff, and participated in several group exhibits during these years. In 1985, she completed her Diploma in Education at McGill University and accepted a teaching position in the Inuit village of Ivujivik in the Far North of Quebec. She loved her experience in the North and remained there for four years, taking one year away to begin her Master’s degree in Art Education. Her graduate studies focused on studio art, particularly lithography, and on research into the Inuit graphic tradition. Her art is figurative, inspired by nature, sometimes landscape, but very often an exploration of the human form. Her works are held in various private and public collections.
